It was a very big and very heavy machine. Each time the augur drills down into the soil 6-8 inches, the operator must lift it back up to the surface so the soil gathered in the spiraling coil will spin to the sides. Heavy work. But so is thinking. Heavy mental lifting. Sometimes we put ourselves in time pressured situations where there is no room left for rest or recovery. This is folly. Invention thrives on reverie and calm reflection. If we don't set aside time for deep thought, we are much less likely to discover great new possibilities. Page 8 1.
