From Start to Finish

Module Seven

Revision: Additions

and Alterations

Now we take advantage of our synthesis skills to consider ways of modifying the elements of what we have collected. We are especially interested in adding ingredients to complete the picture we are drawing or the argument we are making.

In some ways this stage is akin to finishing up a jigsaw puzzle. We have put enough together to see the outlines of the finished product, but there are still missing pieces and work to be done. This is the time to add richness and flavor and depth and color.

Take a look at synthesis as this painter creates six versions of the same house.

Read this section about synthesis in order to strengthen your understanding of the skills involved.

Now spend 30-45 minutes applying what you have learned to your own writing.

Please do not move ahead to the next activity until asked to do so by your workshop leader.
