Poetry by Jamie McKenzie

Headless Snowman

The smiling
Jovial
Snow man
You crafted
Yesterday
With love
And a sense of joy
Lost his head
Last night
Before the thaw
The sun
The light of day
Could do the job
Gracefully

Some passing stranger
Uncomfortable with grins
In this city
Cold even in summer
Knocked it off
Chopped it down
Leaving the body
Complete with buttoned vest
Intact

I said a silent prayer
Running past
The morning after
Held the head softly
In my mind
Safely guarded
Warmly cherished
In memory
